Reflection on 2020
When this photo was taken 5 years ago I felt on top of the world. I was incredibly excited to be joining a total dream team at Pen Publishing. It was flattering to be among such knowledgeable people. I laugh now at how truly green I was, not knowing just how much growth was in line. My experience there was nothing short of amazing. Everything happens for all the right reasons at just the perfect time though, doesn't it? I'm confident now with that experience and knowledge despite the fact that I don't know what I don't know. (Thanks, Steve.) That said, one of my biggest fears is that I won't be taken seriously in my new role. Pretty common thought when starting a new career, right?
I fear my most recent experience in marketing might not seem relevant to landscaping or my landscape experience might not seem recent enough. However, in my last five trips around the sun, I've gained the marketing, leadership and life experience that I need now for success in this new adventure. I was passionate about flowers, shrubs and trees while at major landscape supply wholesalers. I retained that knowledge. My volunteer time at a local greenhouse kept me up to date on current plants and trends. My drive for learning more about what I love pushes me forward. Plus, I'm just crazy enough to think I'll succeed, therefore I will.
Last year might have brought many stresses but I reflect on it with appreciation. I'm strong enough for the challenges 2021 might bring but ready to tend Kansas gardens and landscapes in a way that brings others a sense of calm and peace when they take it in. I hope you'll follow along in my journey to bring serenity through plants and landscaping.
